Getting from the airport in Hanoi, HCMC and Da Nang

One rule first: never take a car from a person who walks up to you inside the terminal. Use a ride-hailing app, the official airport taxi desk, or the public bus. Hanoi, Noi Bai (HAN) The airport sits well north of the city, so plan around 45 minutes to an hour to the Old Quarter, longer in rush hour. Bus 86 runs between the terminals and the centre for a few tens of thousands of dong and is easy with luggage. Cars pay an airport fee on top of the fare, so the price is higher than the distance suggests. Ho Chi Minh City, Tan Son Nhat (SGN) The airport is close to District 1, but traffic can double the time, especially late afternoon. Terminal 1 is domestic, Terminal 2 is international, and they are a short walk apart. Public buses to the centre leave from outside the terminals; routes and stops change, so check the sign or ask at the information desk. Ride-hailing pick-up is not at the arrivals door: follow the signs, usually to a lane in the car park building. Da Nang (DAD) The easiest of the three. The airport is inside the city, so the beach or the centre is a short ride. Hoi An is roughly 45 minutes further south, and hotels there sell fixed-price transfers that are often cheaper than a metered ride. At every airport, agree the price in the app or at the desk before you get in.
